NEW ARTICLE ABOUT THE EXHIBITION AT RHÖSSKA MUSEUM IN THE CHINESE LEFT RIGHT ART ZON....
《這個,我喜歡;這個,我認為非常糟糕》
Past and present, nearby and far away are stored in layers above each other in Torsten Jurell exhibition Beyond the Lower World, exhibited in The Röhsska Museum of Fashion, Design and Decorative Art, Gothenburg, extended till April 29. The exhibition is based on works that Torsten Jurell in recent years created in China and now interact with the museum's historical objects. His artworks in bronze, ceramics, textiles, paintings, prints and neon creates unexpected and poetic connections to the museum collection of artifacts.

TorstenJurell interest in Asia has been around since he was a child and dreamed of going to sea and sail to Shanghai. His father, a policeman repaired Chinese porcelain as a hobby and thus grew the Chinese imagery early into something more than just decorations at the surface.
When he was twenty years old, he began at Valand Art School, he met the colorful woodcuts from Mao's China. They made a big impact and Röhsska Museum made a strong impression on his view of art as an "Asian source of knowledge" in the center of Gothenburg.
In BEYOND THE LOWER WORLD at Röhsska Museum, Torsten Jurell wants to tie together these impressions, how knowledge has been washed back and forth across the oceans for centuries in an enjoyable game with materials and ideas.

BEYOND THE LOWER WORLD shows affinity between the "distant, alien" and the local, familiar.

BEYOND THE LOWER WORLD - beyond archaeological finds: Art conveys knowledge that we can put into words, but art also conveys experience beyond words. When we as viewers are faced with a thousand year old sculpture, we are in the same way in space as the sculptor when the work was created. We passed a "hand's experience," the thousand years are reduced to zero. In a new way can the old come forward and present is given a new light.

looked down on. And potato prints, it would seem, rank lowest of them all – not even worthy of mention! Like our subterranean railways (the “tube” lines), potatoes (tubers!) live most of their lives under the ground. Yet both potato prints and underground railways are ultimately about communication: a communicative process, a journey which gives rise to all sorts of unexpected opportunities.
